Frozen Semen & Storage

Semen-Chilling

Canine semen can be collected and preserved with specialised extenders to provide necessary nutrients and cryoprotectants to the semen during the process of freezing and storage.

Frozen Semen & Storage FAQ’s

We recommend testing the dog’s semen at around 9 months of age, if the quality isn’t up to standard, there is always time to let him grow on. Semen quality generally depletes with age, therefore we will always evaluate the semen prior to freezing.

We do recommend using a bitch in heat if possible but if this cannot be done, as stated above we will always test the quality first and advice accordingly.

Indefinitely, Cryopreservation will keep your sample viable forever.

Freezing Semen is a simple process but has many moving parts, therefore if you do require further information or guidance; book in with our fertility specialist who will guide you through the process.
